Apologies for striking a political note, but H onliners cannot have failed to see / hear reference to the activities of the late Cyril Smith, MP.
He was made an MBE by the Labour Party and then became a Liberal Peer, despite continual allegations as to his involvement in abuse of children in Rochdale care homes over a number of years, dating back to the 1960's.
It is further alleged that he was a visitor to the Elm Guest House in London, as was Jimmy Saville, it has been alleged.
Could I ask that readers email Lynne Featherstone, the Hornsey Lib Dem MP, to ask her when her party intends to announce an enquiry into these allegations as whoever knew about these allegations at the time - and clearly, people did - has a responsibility to the surviving victims and the rest of society.
Thanks for reading this.

Steve Wilkins,
Your profound concern for "the surviving victims and the rest of society" is admirable I'm sure.
And despite your faux-apology "for striking a political note", I am sure you are making no suggestion about how what you call "H onliners" should consider casting their votes in the local or European elections, or in next year's Westminster outing.
As for your Elm Guest House connections, I'm sure you would want us all to email local Labour, Conservative, BNP, Sinn Féin, C of E & R.C. outfits and the rest of the establishment who seem to have been well represented at those Barnes gatherings.
If memory serves, the 29-stone Cyril Smith used also advertise strong garden seats for IKEA or somebody. Should H onliners boycott all garden furniture henceforth, just in case?
He made a valid and very witty criticism of your post and that's the best you can do?
Thanks for your response.
Bigger picture methinks.
Silence and / or platitudes from Lib Dems.
T`was ever thus.
Since you admit that this is a politically-motivated post, could you let us know your own political affiliation so that we can see where you are coming from ?
Sorry for delay in responding - the world of middle-aged blokery has seen a day spent painting garden furniture, a jaunt to the tip, watching Spurs do what they do best and a visit to see the fantastic "Bomber's Moon," at the Finsbury Park Theatre - of which more elsewhere.
To answer your points - a) no I didn't, because b) it isn't, and c) where I'm coming from is IMHO, irrelevant.
Yet to receive a response from Ms Featherstone myself, but she does undertake to do so within 10 working days.
If you wish to explore the politics of child abuse, according to a personal bias, then there's the much-documented question of Sir James Wilson Vincent Savile's suitability as cracker-puller in residence at the Thatcher's for a number of Xmas event,or the allegations of senior Labour members in activities in Lambeth.
I've chosen to contact my local MP about a situation which her party have taken the classic " Can we hope this Goes Away, " strategy.
This involves leafing through " The Big Boy's Book of Weasel Words, " ( or occasionally Girl's to be fair,) and dusting off the "long time ago," "different times," " expressions of regret," gambit.
How far this moves along the response continuum depends on the extent to which MPs feel that their cages are being rattled.
Victims claim to have been warned off or intimidated, police officers have made similar claims.Either these people are liars, or there is a case to answer.
Oh really ?
" Apologies for striking a political note "
Where you are coming from is relevant since you seem to be exploiting the misery of the young abused merely to attack a) the Lib Dems and now b) the Conservatives and Labour. Not much left apart from UKIP, the TUSC and the Greens.
I think we're seeing the shortcomings of trying to "debate" an issue online.
I had initially decided not to do that, but allowed myself to be sucked in. Schoolboy error.I shall now disengage from the discussion.
I do, however, bitterly resent the suggestion that I'm exploiting the misery of young people.I was merely illustrating that there is a scandal of this kind to be addressed within each of the three main parties.
Please do not attribute motives to me which I do not have - as you are wrongity wrong !
Enjoy the sunshine.
Regards
Steve
I am happy to accept your assurances re motives but, as has been said in another thread, the timing is interesting.
John D , Political affiliation label? You are usually more thoughtful and nuanced than that.
Steve Wilkins. How about explaining a little more fully how you see see this? What you think are the most important lessons? And what changes you suggest to stop the current and future Cyril Smiths?
