On Maundy Thursday I was hustled out of my Debit Card INSIDE Banco Santander in Wood Green High Road (the old Abbey National not the old Alliance) by a gang who distracted me. You shouldn't be distracted I know but it's difficult and the first guy was quite plausible ("be carfeful with that machine- it's just taken my card").
But the real point I make is that such a thing could happen inside a bank. Santander had no staff visible- another customer had to find somebody for me- and the ATMs are right by the door which open automatically.
I feel I am entitled to compensation but they're being very unhelpful. I'm not their customer but I was on their premises for legitimate purposes. It's not the first time either I've had issues with their ATMs but they are conveniently located for me. Never again!
But be warned. You are not safe on Banco Santander premises. They have no security and grossly inadequate staffing levels. Avoid them if you can.

Ian* They have CCTV covering every ATM. Contact the police, dial 101 good luck.
Thanks, James. All done. Card cancelled and new card forwarded almost by return (well done, Barclays) and excellent service too from the Police at Hornsey Police Station. And you're right, there are CCTVs honed in on the ATMs. But these guys were so brazen and had unhooded faces looking towards the cameras that I did wonder whether they had someone on the inside who'd made sure that the CCTVs were not operational at that time.
And in any event if a bank thinks that distressing incidents like that don't matter because they're on film after the event then they have a completely skewed idea of customer service.
So I repeat my advice to you all. Don't use Santander.
