Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

That's three now in the past hour. Anyone know what's going on?  At least they are getting it back quickly each time.

PS I just found this website, so next time s/o can go to it on a laptop and report it. This last one was registered. But it doesn't say why they happened.

Yep, we've had them too, just flickering on and off over the past hour. We've had them in the past as a prelude to longer power cuts. Candles at the ready!

A glitch here as that as the power comes back on my doorbell sounds. Must unplug them in case it happens again overnight...

He he.. that old trick. ;)

You like tofu?

In our street and surrounding streets near High Road Tottenham, there was also a power cut. We assumed it was the Harris Federation trying to prevent local people seeing the 10pm news item about Coleraine Park Primary School.

That's funny I thought it was to stop people sending their support to http://tinyurl.com/wccplan

Phil, I don't know who is blaming these "totems of cultural division" for what happened at Coleraine Park School. Nor do think it's enough simply to put the blame on "shit teachers" and/or "shit leaders".

On most complex issues your take is usually - and rightly - a bit more complicated and nuanced than to look for a single group to scapegoat.

I don't pretend to know a huge amount about what happened, but I know a little. As far as I know I was the second person to alert OFSTED and suggest they did an urgent inspection. The first person was David Lammy. Haringey Children's Service have also made this request.

OFSTED still haven't been although I hear that the school staff were expecting them earlier this week. Something isn't right.

In fact several things aren't right.

I also think there are consequences - not necessarily causes - for these divisions and tensions.

Please defer a little longer, Phil.  Hold your horses - or whatever they hold in New Zealand - and wait for further facts to emerge. Some I know; some I'm not going to speculate on.

I suggest it's also helpful to rephrase assertions as questions. Like your statement:

"Haringey Council has managed to overlook the problems"

— recast as —

"What legal powers and responsibilities does Haringey to find out and influence what goes on in an academy school? What responsibilities does an academy have to work with a local council? And how has this operated/failed to operate, and why?

As for your blame-the-shit-teacher  theory, you assume that all the teachers and support staff who were there before the academy are still there. That is not the case. (I don't know the exact numbers).

In any case I'd refer again to Deming's Red Bead Experiment. Good workers can succeed despite a poor system with poor performance measures. But it's often bloody difficult.

The opposite situation as well: I've seen poorly performing staff - including school teachers and support staff - raise their game enormously when they got good  professional development, support from more experienced staff; and were part of a strong team with a positive culture. Sometimes starting with just getting basic systems in place and functioning.

"Social overlords of Tottenham" Who may that be Mr Kennedy?

I thought this discussion was about power cuts.

Those tend to last longer than five minutes.

PS All is now sunny and powered up in Seven Sisters.  Don't forget to use your wonderful and forgotten-till-it-goes electricity to visit http://tinyurl.com/wccplan and give us a hug.
