Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

OK 2014's here.  So now can anyone let us know the status of the Harringay Green Lanes Festival?

At the end of 2013 I heard some rather disturbing reports that its off, due to a number of reasons. Cost - all the councils money being spent further east and further west in the borough. No Cabinet member - to push through plans and negotiations with the other boroughs affected ( islington and hackney). Time - I understand that dealing with london transport to get buses rerouted just takes forever and hasnt been done.

Im not sure about all the above details - so does anyone have the definitive answer? It would be such a shame to have to wait another year or two for the next one.

Thanks Nilgun, welcome news!! 2014 is shaping up nicely.

RIP - Harringay Green Lanes Festival

I know I seem to be banging on about the festival, but i cannot believe that none of our local councillors/candidates have commented on this thread. Where are you all ??????

Its 2014, your all up for election in months!

What an epitaph - festival killed by lack of political will!

looks like the fat lady has finally sung.

Hugh, could HOL make an e-timecapsule that could be set to open in 100 years with photos and a programme of events showing what a great two years we had.  Maybe they could resurrect the event.

Without being to pessimistic, I've sent a link to all nine councillors whose ward is wholly or partly in Harringay and have invited then to comment. Those nine include Council Leader, Claire Kober and Cabinet Finance member Joe Goldberg (Seven Sisters Ward) as well as the councillors for Harringay and St Ann's wards who comment on here semi-regularly.

I think that Rob fairly well sums up the obstacles in the way of a festival this year.  I am a huge supporter of the festival and I would very much like to see it happen this year.  Currently there are discussions about the possibility but there are lots of threads that need to be drawn together before real planning can start.  Cllr John Bevan is now the cabinet member responsible and I will contact him to see how this can start to be driven forward.

Hi Hugh

Apologies - I didn't see the email with the link to this thread but I'm replying now.

As Nilgun says John Bevan has confirmed Council support for the festival so its a good and vital start.  The devil, of course, is in the detail so we will need to get a list together of what is needed and then meet with him and/or the officers to get firm commitments and allocation of tasks. I can assure you that Nilgun, David and I will do our best to get things rolling before May!

Dasos Maliotis, come back and Manage the Neighbourhood. You were a backroom trojan (no ethnic slight intended) and a gentleman.

Hi Rob that's great. Nilgun's news is fantastic as well.
VIVA HARRINGAY GREEN LANES FESTIVAL!!!
Hopefully we'll have some solid good news at the end of the month.
Thanks to all who've picked up this tread
