Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Fabulous Festive Fun at the Tottenham Ploughman's Winter Showcase

Once upon a time, a Queen of Markets put a slice of Wilde's Cheese with a Flourish roll and added Living Under One Sun pickles and fruits on a plate. She served with a glass of Redemption beer and thus the Tottenham Ploughman's was born.

Last Sunday, the Queen held a Christmas extravaganza at Tottenham's treasure, Bruce Castle Museum. The Tottenham cheesemeister was back, the master brewer of N17 was pulling pints and Christmas cake supremo Flourish bakery was enticing small children to their stall with beautiful gingerbread biscuits.

Living Under One Sun were still serving ploughman's lunches but they had added delicious vegetable soups to keep out the cold.

And they had brought lots and lots of friends to Tottenham's biggest Christmas Party.

Harringay Market stalwarts Square Root London were serving sodas and mulled ginger beer, while Harringay and Tottenham WI sold wonderful cakes and biscuits, as well as having a produce stall that was a blaze of colour and taste.

Micro businesses from all over Tottenham came to show their wonderful wares. One of my favourites (and I don't even have a dog) was a business that make dog treats and pet supplies called Fetch and Follow.

but there were many, many more talented folk showcasing their arts and crafts.

Downstairs in the lovely education room, three drunken maidens were entertaining the crowds

and a rather scary *actual* Tottenham ploughman was telling ghost stories at the Tudor tower. Carols were provided by the New Tottenham Singers.  Meanwhile the small people were busy making lanterns for the Tottenham Children's parade.

We even found Tottenham's very own Santa selling raffle tickets to raise money for the food bank.

We had to leap onto a 341 bus to get back in time for the Harringay Lantern Parade so didn't get a chance to do everything but the winter festival was a wonderful event, organised by five very dedicated Tottenham residents, including Seema Chandwani who said (via Twitter),

Today Tottenham showed it is a place of talent, ambition, enterprise, success, determination, ability & community.

She went on to add,

How many pictures are there zackley of me wearing those reindeer antlers? No wonder I can't find a husband... :(

Many thanks to Cheryl Cohen, Seema and the #teamtottenham crew for pulling off another triumph.

Looking forward to the Spring tea dance....

Postscript:

The boy loves his #madeintottenham slippers

Wasn't it fab!? I'm now on a mission to source one of  the Flourish Bakery stollens, as I didn't reach the stall on time. Meanwhile most of the huge supply of Wilde's cheese I bought as already been eaten...

It was lovely afternoon, and nice to see Bruce House bustling with people.
