Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Many cyclists and runners use a clever app called Strava where you can time yourself on 'segments' and compare your times to what your friends have done.

A runner on Strava has set up a segment which encompasses all 19 Ladder Roads and Turnpike Lane

Only if it rains heavily and that mini-flood by Homebase reappears for the water jump.  Or we could use the New River, I suppose.

this segment was done as a run, not a cycle

I noticed this segment just last week. Am wanting to give it a go, the only thing stopping me is finding a time when the brief sections on Green Lanes won't be a pain in the arse, especially towards the bottom end. Early Sunday start is the most obvious solution but that doesn't appeal much at this time of year.

Reckon you could easily make it 10k by carrying on to the bottom of Wrightman Road and then down Endymion.

There's also the Roller Coaster, which has the potential to be a bit hurty.

I run intermittently and have been building my stamina with extra roads. I started because I thought the hilly roads would be a great challenge - the idea of making it a real event (like the Tower42 run) is a great.

I have to say, this is still one of my favourite runs- it is close, a loop, is in the green space mostly, and keeps me of a lot of main roads (and having to cross them too!!!)

Nice to see this enthusiasm, hoepfully see you all @ the Crouch End 10K run - with proper course and timing chips.  Seems to be doubling in size each year and a great way to get the community together with all the organised kids runs, and minimusic festival Great day out last year. Plus it raises money for Hornsey YMCA.

I used to do this one a lot Justin, though going through the woods rather than round. Far too far these days!

Yes, I confess. I love to do the 22 roads (if you count Turnpike Lane and Endymion Roads and if you do the Lothairs North and South, connecting them with Venetia or Tancred, a bit of Endymion and then with Coningsby). It adds up to 7.5 miles if you return via Green Lanes or Wightman Road to your starting point.

But on to the main issue: I think the Harringay Hurtle is an absolutely brilliant idea and I'll have a word with the police to see if we could do brief road closures on the lines of what is done when there is a procession or a demonstration.

If that is not possible, we might be able to succeed if we kept to the pavements and if we had phased starting times for a few runners at a time. We'd need, in that case, to take advice as to how many we could accommodate, as people's different running speeds are likely to cause some bunching up, even if the starts are phased - it being a bit like the way you wait an age for a bus and then three come at once.

Then again, we might be able to do part on the road and part on the pavement (the pavements north of St. Ann's Road being fortunately rather broad).

The explanation for my own rather eccentric activity, by the way, is firstly that I am hoping to do the London marathon for charity and secondly that it is a very good way of keeping an eye on the things I am supposed to be keeping an eye on (I've just reported some dumped mattresses on Pemberton Road, for example). Also I encourage people stop me if they want me to do anything for them as a Councillor (the one hour surgery once a month isn't really enough).

Sounds like enough people are interested...lets just do it!

I've never run 10km but from a bit of googling it sounds like anyone could after a bit of practice, from this BUPA page all it takes for a complete beginner is going for a run 3 times a week for two months.

So start in the new year to get all those with a "get fit" new years resolution and two months later is the beginning of March. Pick a Sunday morning so the footpaths wont be too busy...   

How about 9am Sunday March the 9th?
