Among other things it brought back something I haven't thought of for years, which was deciding I wanted to have all his albums but not knowing anyone with them (and not having enough money to buy them). So I joined a tape club where you sent in a list of the records you wanted to borrow and at random ,moments a tape would arrive in the post. I'd them set up two tape recorders and use one to tape the tape, complete with the noise of me shutting the door (and opening it again to check whether the recording had worked).
So my memories of Lou Reed are of the door creaking at a key moment in Berlin. And that song The Gift, which was a bit traumatic as I remember.
And sorry Lou for depriving you of some royalties ...
