Ducketts Common This Evening
I don't want to open another can of worms, as per the previous thread about anti-social behaviour and drug-dealing. However, is it possible that the drug-dealing/gang presence in Duckett's common has intensified recently? Has anyone else noticed anything?
This afternoon/evening, I was out with my son and there was clearly a bit of what my mother used to call 'argy-bargy' between a couple of young drug-dealers (and yes, you could see them dealing, it wasn't just a common or garden fracas). And then around an hour later there were large groups of young men (20 or 30) seemingly squaring up to each other near Turnpike Lane station.
I've always taken it for granted that you'll pass a certain amount of dealing in a London park. But it is the threat of violence that felt new and worrying. It made me not want to be on the Common at all, even though it was broad daylight. Given the possible drug-related violence down at McDonald's the other day, I wondered if there could be a link.
I've only lived here for less than two years. Does a gang violence escalation happen every so often? Am I blowing this out of proportion?

That is really worrying. I have certainly seen suspect activity outside the bookies just up the high street. Fingers x that the police keep a close eye on the park - lots of secondary school children come after school to play basket ball and hang out and the gang of older youths hanging out by the bike stalls by the football pitch can look quite intimidating. Maybe friends of Ducketts Common have any info on the policing of the park?

The drugs issues on and around DC get flagged up at most of the monthly meetings. Sometimes it's better sometimes worse.
Anyone can attend the meetings and have points added to the agenda. The meetings are announced on our website, facebook page etc (see links below).
If you cannot attend a meeting you can voice your concerns via the website form and comments are passed on to our police/council contacts.

Please also call '101' the MET police non emergency number where you can report any criminal or suspicious activity. The MET police can then resource their officers and operations accordingly.
I have reported this concern to Pauline Syddell (Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator, MET), who has responded:
'We are aware of problems in and around Ducketts Common and there are quite a few police operations taking place there in conjunction with the dispersal zone'.

The next FODC meeting is Wednesday, 16 Oct 2013 at 19:00 at the Falkland Centre, Frobisher Road (next to North Harringay Primary School).
An SNT officer will be attending to delineate what is being done regarding the drug dealers and other anti-social behaviour on the common.

Hi, like every other resident I know I'm completely baffled why the Police allow this group of men to openly deal drugs in broad daylight in a public park where children are playing, it's just bizarre. I've just sent yet another e mail to Pauline Sydell and Liam Farge at the Metropolitan Police who have always been very polite and seem to understand that this isn't acceptable but nothing ever changes so I can only presume that their superiors couldn't care less about people openly dealing drugs in the area as it's been going on for years. Supposedly there's a 'Dispersal Order' in place and I was told that this would stop them congregating there but they're still there every single day, bold as brass.
The always helpful Nilgun Canver has just suggested I email Richard Watson, the relevant Cabinet Member, and Stephen McDonnell, the relevant officer, as Ducketts Common is in their ward, which I've just done - maybe if enough of us keep asking the Police and Councillors to do something about it they'll finally make an effort ??
