TK Maxx Sets Date for Harringay Opening
T.K. Maxx has named October 3rd as the opening date for it's Harringay Store. So put in in your diary if you're on the hunt for some local clothing bargains and make a note to avoid driving to Sainsbury's that weekend! (It'll be interesting to see if the renewed traffic and parking problems I fear will materialise or whether everything has in fact been perfectly calibrated).

Just what we need, another outlet for cheap-and-nasty clothing, made by slave child labour in the East. And I don't see how the forthcoming problems can possibly have been "perfectly calibrated", since absolutely no changes are being made to accommodate the extra traffic. You're right to be worried about the extra parking problems, and about the over-spill of those onto the already congested Green Lanes-Williamson Road junction. Taking a bus ride along Green Lanes, going about one's lawful business, is going to become even more hellish. "TK Max" obviously stands for "Transport Kongestion Max".

I'd agree with most of that Christopher except cheap-and-nasty. Much of their stock is reasonable quality.

I like TK Maxx - you can get some nice clothes there and it's the only sensible place in town to buy men's underwear. The one where the old Borders used to be in Charing Cross road is great. The Wood Green one is OK too. So I don't think this is needed here but that won't stop me shopping there. But I will come by bicycle or the overland and leave the car behind.

Sorry, my comments about the quality of TK Maxx's stock were a bit over-the-top. I allowed my worries about the extra traffic and the effect on (especially) the bus routes along Green Lanes, to influence me. I take your point. Though I always (being an old-fashioned traditionalist Brit) buy my underwear at M&S...
Agree with you, very sensible to leave the car behind on a trip to the "retail park", and go on foot or bike. I just wish the bus-stop there, on the northbound side, would re-open, for those occasions when I'm lugging big heavy bags home.

I've noticed they've increased the length of the right hand turn lane on Williamson Road into the TK Maxx / Homebase car park further back to Green Lanes.

I hadn't noticed that this change had been made. But, since there's no more parking space, and it will be just as hard to drive in, and also to drive out onto Green Lanes, unless TK Maxx's "plan" is correct (which hardly seems likely), then surely the congestion will be much worse than now. I think you are right to be concerned about this, Hugh. I think Haringey Council were mad to allow a big retail park development when there is only one entry/exit, onto a very busy and, even when there was just Sainsburys there, congested road (Green Lanes). Oh dear, I fear that this will not end well....

As a non-driver and fashionista with an eye for a bargain, I'm afraid to say I'm rather looking forward to this. TK Maxx has a bit of a jumble-sale appeal for many - unlike the blandness of Next, the only other clothing company in the retail park at present, you never quite know what you're going to find there.
I've been happily wearing a £200 cashmere sweater that I bought for £30 in a TK Maxx 3 years ago; it comes out every winter and is still in great nick. Hope to find many more like that closer to home!

I am worried about the traffic congestion too and hope it won't add to what's already a problem but I have to say it's good to have a shop nearby where you might actually consider buying their clothes. Beats the cheap and tacky offerings around here at the moment.

I love TK Maxx, but the one at Wood Green is enough for me to be honest. Especially since it's taken over the space left by the old Peacocks.

Apart from some of the previous negative comments, mentioning no names, TK Maxx guys! Get excited! tk maxx clothing comes from a mass of different outlet stores so you cant call them cheap or nasty as they are neither. the traffic may be a problem but im sure some one will be awash with complaints come October. But remember when stuck in said traffic, your boot is loaded with bargains.
