tee hee - how true
I sometimes agree with Eric Pickles - or at least with his gut feeling about how things ought to be. But has he thought through what will happen when councils' Planning Committees start turning down applications because there's insufficient space for out-of-sight bins? Mr Pickles' Inspectors are likely to overrule such decisions on appeal.
The BBC report suggests that the Local Government Association (LGA) is lost even further inside cloud cuckoo land. The LGA is quoted telling us that "council planners already ensured there was adequate space for bin storage". Not in Haringey they don't. They seem to take developers' information on trust.
There are ways to "help avoid bins dominating residential streets" on new developments. One is to tighten controls to prevent and reverse the practice of turning gardens and small buildings into people-hutches. But Mr Pickles isn't about to do that, is he?
