Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Ulp! Received the following email today:

I'm very pleased to tell you that you have been shortlisted for The Revolutionary Award in this year's Catalyst Awards.

The shortlisting panel assessed your project as fulfilling the awards criteria at a high level, demonstrating the potential of social technology to improve communities and inspire others.

You will now be asked to pitch your project to a panel of judges in a 'Dragons Den' style at The Cumberland Hotel Great Cumberland Place, London from 11am till 3pm on 9th July. You will have 5 minutes for your pitch and the judges will follow up with questions.

Congratulations on being shortlisted.

Wonderful news, Hugh. Go on singing 'Harringay - Harringay -Harringayonline...' like that chap Levi Roots and his 'Reggae - Reggae Sauce ...' on Dragons' Den.
Just remember: an Analyst just breaks up while a Catalyst tends to break down. Helpful? No, I thought not.
Levi Roots you say. He's that chap that's coming to the Big Green Bookshop on Saturday August 9th to do some singing and signing of his new book.
Not that we like to use this website as an advertising post for the shop....

You could always invite Karen Galey to support you. I'm sure she'd be delighted.
Great news - all the best Hugh
The Revolutionary Award ... who are these people!? Is this a new TV show?

Is our 'dear leader' to become famous and be smuggled out to Hollywood to make community inspired ads for Coca cola? Perish the thought.

I think Eddie's right. Some sort of musical accomplament could help. As this is for a 'Revolutionary' award we need to work out who we're taking over and then hunt high & low for an inspiring score from an insurgent's war chest. Of course it might be easier if we gather several 'ladder' musicians together to write an original score.

Step forward all ye faithful on-liners and commit to the project of the Harringay Revolution. First task; decide who we are revolting against!!
I completely understand your cynicism Matt. I'm not the greatest fan of awards, but I have to accept the role they play. Please understand that this isn't about my self-agrandisement. It's aimed at getting a higher profile and more credibility for the website.

Perhaps a rather melodramatic award title, but read above or look at the Catalyst site and you'll see that what they're looking for is "the potential of social technology to improve communities and inspire others". Useful enough to be recognised for I think.
No not cynical! Just not understanding the background to it. Awards are there rightly to promote & recognize merit where it's due. This site deserves credit for sure. I was just adding some lite entertainment.

I see from the Awards site the following;

These awards were announced last July when Prime Minister Gordon Brown started the Council for Social Action.

It was decided that Social Technology was a key part of positive social action in the UK.

The awards are sponsored by NESTA, The National Endowment for Science, Arts and Technology and BERR, the government’s Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

They are supported by Make Your Mark, the national campaign to help young people make their ideas happen, Unltd who support social entrepreneurs, and Polecat who help businesses and organisations measure their social impact.

JUDGES
Judges will be announced at the end of June.
oh Matt, stop being cynical and let's all get Hugh a drink at the next knees-up. It's well deserved! When is that, by the way? And remember, without Hugh, we never would have met.. ;D
So when is the next knees up then?
Dunno, Matt's the man. Matt, where are you?
There's a meeting tonight at the Salisbury 8pm to discuss the ladder party in the park. We could all buy our great leader a drink or two? Hugh definately deserves an award for this site, unlike other social networking sites out there where people just promote themselves, this site promotes and enhances our community like NOTHING else has done in the 10 years I have lived here!!!
Sorry I can't be there but large amounts of love to Hugh for making this possible - give the man a cup of tea.

PS I don't think that personal and rather unpleasant comments about individual have a place on this site Matt
ooooops not tonight, tomorrow night!
