No more Whipcar
I just received an email to say that the peer to peer car sharing organisation Whipcar has stop operating, with immediate effect. There were quite a few Whipcars around this area - was anyone a regular user?
This is a shame as it was a clever idea.

I was just looking to book a car through this site as I've used it several times before and was far cheaper than Zipcar and other sites. It is a real shame.

I too think it's a pity. They represented a real alternative to the wholly commercial Streetcar-Zipcar-Avis, whom the council has helped to style as a "club" and that was plugged in the council's Haringey People (together with advertising: free, concessional or full-rates?).
I guess that wee Whipcar wasn't eligible for any kind of favoured council subsidy.
I imagine that they've closed purely for financial reasons, either they were losing money or making only modest money.
But the idea is surely a good one and I hope that they or a similar operation, may be back.

I rented out my car from the beginning with Whipcar and am sad to see it go - let's hope an alternative appears.
