WARNING: Burglars 'casing' houses on Effingham Road this evening

I opened my front door tonight on Effingham around 8.25pm to find a bloke at the bottom of my steps. He had either just come up to the front door or was about to come up and stepped back. He made up some cock and bull story about looking for a French woman, but he didnt know the number of the house and kept asking me if our house had been split into 2 flats or not. I told him where to go in no uncertain terms, at which point a black Vauxhall Passat (reg. RK 58 PWZ) appeared out of nowhere, he got in the passenger side and they sped off.

I reported it to 101 and they've confirmed that this registration is already known to police (although they couldn't confirm what for, they mentioned it had several incidents against it). So it was almost unquestionably some burglars checking out the houses.
