Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

For a few days now I've suspected something was afoot with Turnpike Lane's Banksy; it's been surrounded by scaffolding and tarpaulin since Wednesday - and there was a security van present for much of that time.

This morning I had a sneaky look under said tarpaulin to find it had been removed. I spoke to the guy rendering the wall and he said that after repeated attempts to gouge it out, the owner of the Poundland building had decided to take steps to 'preserve' it. He wasn't sure where it's gone...one can only wonder if it's been sold. Sad to see it go - it was nice to have a landmark of sorts...

There's a big article in Metro about it this morning, it's already been sold. Very sad (and greedy) but ultimately it was done on private property, so the owner is within his rights.

Today's Metro on 'missing' Banksy

Quote; 'Residents are also organising an email campaign [Tunbridge Wells], asking the auction company to abandon the sale.' A little research from the HOL site it appears. At least the BBC contacted the auction house.

OAE will be happy to hear the news article is near the top of the 'most read' items list.

Its now the second most read story on the BBC - The Journalist seems to have been browsing HOL!

The Feathers appears to be on the case now...

Oh no! He made that piece for the people and now it's just gonna be in some banker's house. Sad!

Harringay Online get a mention in the Guardian story on this (albeit they've not quite got the spelling right yet)

Bloody 'ell, the comment section in the Guardian has got lively ...

After starting with 'Haringey Online', the story has been corrected to the following:

Methinks the Grauniad needs to read one of Hugh's articles.
