Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have again asked for some enforcement action by the council against HGVs using Wightman Road and the ladder roads.

I am pleased to say that I have just had an email from the Parking Infrastructure Manager to say that they will be carrying out some enforcement this week between 7am and 8.30am.

Lets hope it starts to send a message to the companies that they lorries belong to.

Thanks for all of this Karen. Can you please ask about the signs on Burgoyne road? We haven't got anywhere about thiswith the council after they mysteriously disappeared

The sign at the top of Hampden Rd was mysteriously missing for a couple of years. John D and I chased and chased but it was only put back after the HGV traffic to the new sidings no longer needed it.

One of the HGV drivers I stopped once knew chapter and verse about the 7.5 access laws and pointed out to me that be cause the sign at the bottom of Raleigh Rd was damaged (it had been hit by a lorry) he didn't have to pay any attention to it. Willoughby Rd is now 7.5t too so this argument should no longer hold. When it suits them they play dumb, when they think they're in the right they know the law very well.

Ours went mysteriously missing almost immediately after the helpful council officer I was dealing with told me the following:

"If any vehicles are over 7.5t in weight and use Burgoyne Road for any reason other than access and providing the signage is still there (which I assume it is) then those vehicles should receive a penalty charge notice."

For anyone who thinks I'm paranoid, here it is in living colour on google maps:

Then zoom forward to the next image, taken in July last year, just after the Council suggested it might take action - note the signs have vanished both as to the weight and speed limit.

Karen, if you could get an explanation from the Council for this disappearance, and a promise to put them back, everyone on our street would be most grateful.

Before we moved into Falkland Road, there was no "Except for Access" below the 7.5t sign. However, late last year I noticed a large number of lorries using the road (admittedly this was observed only after several months living here) and realised that the sign had been installed (I verified this on google maps and as at May 2012, it wasn't there). I did raise this with a councillor who indicated that the installation of these signs does not require consultation.

I had an email from Gary Weston, Highways Enforcement, this morning (1.2.13) to say that they did some enforcement for HGVs on Wightman Road on Tuesday and Wednesday, early morning.  They stopped 13 vehicles and issued fines.  They were so concerned about the number of vehicles ignoring the ban that they will be doing some more enforcement next week.

Fantastic result, thanks Karen.

Wow - brilliant work. Thanks Karen - it's so nice to know we have an effective Councillor on board!! Any chance you can have a word to them about the signs?

If there was one thing a councillor has done since 2010 in Harringay to earn my vote, this would be it. Two votes to go.

Hooray!

As someone who lives very near a speed bump on Burgoyne, I would also be very keen to see the signs replaced.

If budgets are a problem, I'm sure we'd all put in a fiver to buy a new sign if it was going to be enforced.

I agree with John - thank you Karen for your help and persistence with this, it will not be forgotten!  Now for the signs...

I have asked about the signage again today.  Lets wait for a response then decide the best way to pursue it.

Oh poor Cllr. Alexander, I fear for you. Remember what they did to Jesus when he started performing miracles. Good luck and thanks though.
