Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone used one of the Apple TV gadgets (http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/apple_tv) to stream images (films) from your Mac to a TV?

If so any thoughts as to whether it is worth £80-100, limitations, alternatives etc?

It looks like Justin that you chose a very unpopular device to ask for.

So far in my IT career I have met two people with this device and it makes a huge difference to their home video system. In some cases you router needs to be properly set up with the port inside - similar to online gaming you to be able to start the video steam from your computer to TV. And no complaints after.

Marek  Thanks for the reply but I am a bit confused. I think you are saying it is tricky to set up. Yes?

Would you have any alternatives you might recommend instead?

My parents have it, neither particularly techie and my sister and her family have it, again not techie and they never had any problems setting it up. I love using it when I visit, at my house I use a cable to connect to the TV but I am definitely putting Appletv on my wish list.

I can't tell you all the ins and outs and I have found some small problems with it, not all apps seem to want to stream over it and others will give you sound and no picture (nowtv for example) but they won't let you stream from the iPad to the tv anyway.

Thanks, I think a key consideration is going to be something physically connected to the TV, it is a few years old and not WIFI enebled, so I need a wired solution I reckon.

I saw one operating today and it looked ok, I spent a fortune on Virgin films over the holidays, I suspect Netflix would have done the job for a fraction of the cost....
