After much searching, including a scary moment when I thought I would end up in Dalston, I finally have a new home.
It’s in a shared key worker development further down Green Lanes towards The Castle (Thanks for the tip off David). Its not Harringay anymore, but its near enough to allow for a bracing stroll to Harringay Market on a Sunday and to enable me to get to all the other social activities I have taken up since moving into the area two years ago.
Ignoring the fact that I occupied a house owned by a deliciously barking Greek landlady that was designed for The Addams Family (with electricals courtesy of The Flintstones AND a Gruffalo living in the basement), living on Pemberton Road was wonderful.
Not even the Paddington of my childhood could match the community spirit of that road and of the Ladder in general. Last winter’s snow showed that as did the street party we had just a week or two before I moved. It was such a shame that rental prices and the criminally high charges made by rental agencies, made it impossible for me to remain.
Still, as I have said before, the minute my six numbers come up, I won’t be looking for any cottage in the country - I moved out of one of those to come back to Harringay – as there is only one place I would like to live again.
Thanks then. To Justin, Hugo, Liz, Hugh, David and Michael and all the rest. I’ll see you around, but not as much. It’s been a joy!
