Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The neighbour's tree may be lifting our patio but we aren't sure.  My husband says it is just the weeds but a friend says it is the tree.  Where can I get another (free) opinion?  Is it worth asking the insurance company for advice?  Would they send someone to have a look?  The house is rented and I have no idea who the owner is.  Any advice appreciated, thanks

Tree Roots rarely damage houses in the way people think.  A good local tree surgeon should be able to provide expert advice though.

Hi

ok thanks. I will look through posts re tree surgeons.

Hi

can anyone recommend a reasonably priced tree surgeon to give advice on the neighbour's tree.  At this stage I just need to know if the tree is doing damage but no tree cutting for me. Who would be the cheapest in N4 area?

For a starter, try the tag I've just added under your original posting.

Actually, approaching your insurers doesn't sound like a bad idea as I'm sure they would want to avoid paying out for any preventable damage. You can trace ownership through the Land Registry http://www.landregistryservices.com/land-registry/
Cost about £20.

Hi Louise,

The only plants capable of lifting a patio would be ones like Japanese Knotweed and possibly Ivy. A tree (especially a fast growing one like Sycamore) is the most likely culprit. I would advise contacting your insurance company.

Ewan Alexander.

Hi

thanks for your advice.  I did contact the insurance company but they can't tell me if it is covered without knowing the actual cause.  They were not helpful at all and does not sound like it's worth starting a claim. I'm working on trying to get hold of the neighbour - not easy. Many thanks for your advice.
