We're about to knock down the wall between our 2 reception rooms and are looking for some smart, sliding doors so we can still use them as two different spaces as well as one large room.
Can anyone who's done this recommend some doors as we can't find that wide a selection?
Thanks
I wonder if any of the architectural salvage places would have any original Victorian doors? Mine work pretty well after 120 years and suit the house.
I did a job like this years ago. I made the doors: MDF fitted to a timber frame (could put isnulation inside).
First find the mechanics, they need to hang on tracks. I'd go to Poole Waite & co on the Clarkenwell Rd.

or anywhere that stocks from the Hafele catalog:

If you're knocking down the wall yourself, you HAVE thought about whether it's a structural supporting wall ?
Wickes have some sliding doors but you may not like them. I recall that Franchi's the locksmiths on Holloway Road used to have the fittings so you can make your own.
You could have some made.
We used Lordship joiners for our exterior doors/ sash windows and their head-joiner Ray is very capable.
They are also remarkably well priced - so much so that it was cheaper for us to get bespoke doors than anything off-the-shelf.
I'd first like to echo the point John D made about checking whether or not the wall you are knocking down is structural!
After that was sorted in our case a few years ago, we bricked up the existing door opening to the back room, since it wasn't really needed. Then we had one surplus standard door, and we 'borrowed' the kitchen one to make a pair, which we got hung on tracks. I'm sorry, but I can't remember where these came from. Then the guy who installed them made a false wall out of plasterboard to cover the whole area, with MDF panels at the places where the tracks might need to be accessed sometime.
Thanks for all the suggestions! We've got builders in to do the work and the wall that's coming down is plaster board so not structural.
