Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A family of stray cats are in a garden on Allison Road (Green Lanes end). I have counted a small black mother cat who seems thin and in poor condition plus 4 kittens who follow her around (see pic). I'd guess they are 5 or 6 weeks old. There are 3 black ones and a grey/white one. This garden has a history of stray kittens which has not been addressed and I suspect these are descendants of other strays.

I have 2 rescue cats of my own so can't home these but feel the following needs to happen:

- all of these cats to be spayed

- the mother's health to be addressed.

- the kittens to be homed ASAP if possible

Does anyone know anything about these animals or own them? if not I'll try and arrange for them to be spayed. Is anyone looking for kittens? I understand if they are homed when young enough they should become good pets...but not if it's left too late and they grow up unfamiliar with people. I'd need help to catch them - I think the charities have cages to trap them with food.

I'm not sure if the mother cat can be helped much - I think the shelters are full and the RSPCA prefer to leave strays where they are unless in distress. However if someone on Allison Road can agree to feed her in the garden maybe that might help - I don't live on the road myself but have access whilst the tenants are away.

Thanks for any help or advice you can give!

REHOMING NEWS

I've sent connection requests to all the kind people who have offered to home a kitten. We'll be arranging home visits in the next few weeks so thank you.

If you are offering a home to a kitten, please can you agree to get the kitten innoculated (2 jabs with a 3 week interval between them, starting as soon as possible) and neutered at around 4 or 5 months. This means your kitten will need to go to the vet now for the first jab, in three weeks time for the next and then for neutering in about 2 or 3 months time. The cost of the innoculations is about £50 and vets usually offer free neutering covered by charity, or save the charity funds and pay about £60.

Thanks to everyone who has offered support and advice but weren't able to offer a home themselves. I've received brilliant support from a great local charity Animal Aid and Advice. If you wish to support their work helping local stray animals, I think they'd be very grateful for any donations via their website: http://www.animalaidandadvice.org/

Hi Sophie,

My husband just found 2 kittens in Seymour road and wondering if they are related.

They are a bit nervous but quite friendly.

I don't know how to attach a photo here so I will post a new discussion.

So please have a look.

Kittens are now ready for viewing so come and decide which one you want to keep! will be ready for homing in about 2 or 3 weeks.

Hi Sophie,

It's brilliant you've done such a wonderful job with these kittens. We are interested in having some rescue kittens and were wondering how many there are and of what sexes? I'd added you as a connection so you can send me a message if you'd prefer. we're having some work done in our flat at the moment, but this will be finished by the end of the month. I'm happy to be vetted if it looks like it could work out.

Thanks,

Becky

Hi Becky - thanks for getting in touch. I'm afraid I haven't yet tried to sex the kittens but I will maybe have a go later today. There are 5 of them, and I'll prioritise anyone who can take 2 of them.

Could I please ask you to make a connection with Sally M on this site - she was involved in this discussion - and arrange a home visit with her. I'm also asking people to get the kittens innoculated (1 set of jabs then another 3 weeks later) as soon as they take them, at a cost of around £50. It's also very important to get them neutered about 2 months after taking them ie when they are about 5 months old. I found a nice vet on Tollington Road who will do all this for you, or find your own. Charities do cover the cost of neutering but if you want to save them the money it's usually about £60.

You are welcome to come and view the kittens tonight from 7pm or Tuesday same time - I'm also available in the daytime on weekdays for the next 3 weeks if that helps. I'm on Salisbury Road - I'll send my details by private message.

thanks - speak soon

Sophie

here i am if you want to PM me!! happy to do a home visit once you have met the kitties and chosen which you want. they really are adorable little things :)

Ok these kittens are left so far:

- one grey female

- one black female

- 2 black males

I've done my best attempt to sex them anyway! Kitten bits are very small...

Please message me if you would like to view - next week is best, especially Tue evening.

The mother cat of these kittens is a lovely little tabby who is only young. Can someone out there offer her a home with one of her kittens or on her own? You can see a photo of her on Sally M's separate post called "home needed for adult cat". Otherwise she won't have a home to go to.

Last chance to rehome one of these kittens - I've one black boy left and they are free to go from Friday.
