I just recently came across a nice little mapping exercise undertaken with the help of the University of London to map London's most common surnames. At first pass I thought it was just another fun info map, but it seems like the map's creator has used a solid dataset.
He's broken London into 983 geographic units (Middle Super Output Areas). The surname frequencies come from the 2001 Electoral Roll and won’t contain everyone living in London but it is one of the best datasets available.
Harringay has four MSOAs within it's boundaries. Taking the one centred on The Salisbury, (what I've come to think of as the heart of Harringay), our top ten surnames in descending order are :

Really interesting, and projects science and data analysis in a really "arty" way that you would be happy to have hanging on your wall! Of course checked out my (very English) surname across the world and found it where I would expect, though in England surprisingly more in East Anglia than in London where I thought it originated.
