On our doorstep: Walking tour to discover the New Kings Cross

On our doorstep, Kings Cross is undergoing an extraordinary regenerative renaissance in over 87 acres previously largely forgotten former railway lands behind this major rail terminus.

A new quarter with new postcodes is emerging all around the cultural core of the University of the Arts and the rebirth of Kings Cross Station itself.

As part of the London Festival of Architecture, New London Architecture are leading a series of walking tours around Kings Cross to help people learn more about the developments.

Running 7 - 15 July. Find out more about the tours and book your place here.

I work opposite and have a lunchtime stroll through most weeks. It's changing quickly so now is the time to get to see the mix of the old and the new. Make sure you go into the University of the Arts. The Granary building is open to the public and you can walk through to the wonderful new atrium (picture above). Make sure you exit the atrium to the right and then walk up the eastern side of the University. You can see in to the students studios and watch art in progress.

Also, don't miss Camley Street Natural Park. It's lovely in its own right and has great views over the canal to some of the old warehouse buildings.

Nice picture of my place of work - or at least one of them.  Another little gem there is the Platform Theatre which is at the other end of the Granary Building, in Handyside Street.  This is home to the world famous Drama Centre, alma mata to the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Simon Callow, Tara Fitzgerald, John Simm, Russell Brand and Colin Firth.

Its worth looking out for student productions, which are usually done in the final year as you get to see some terrific young actors that could just make it big in future.

I''d love to work there - you lucky man. I'm moving into one of the new offices in 2014 that are being constructed on the west side of The Boulevard (if I still have a job that is).
