Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm a regular critic of Haringey Council's use of vague and imprecise language. Occasionally someone writes to me gleefully pointing out some careless cliché or obscure vocabulary I've used. I also get sent issues of the free newsletter "Pikestaff" - with advice to sharpen-up my own English.

If you haven't come across Pikestaff, it's an interesting read - especially if you want to improve the clarity and readability of your own writing. And it's free!

Thanks alan i like this

They are doing battle about misleading parking signs. And have a link to the BBC's Watchdog investigation which  is an exposé of private parking companies.

The detailed report - downloadable for free - is by no means severely plain English. It includes many entertaining turns-of-phrase. So, letters from private companies chasing "fines" are threatograms. A solicitor is described as "not the brightest button ever sewn on the frock-coat of justice"

I shared this with some colleagues at work yesterday and they're really enthusiastic (I work for Camden council so we're prime offenders). Thanks Alan.
