Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It seems like the Crypyt Studios on Crouch Hill in Crouch End are about to make way for a flats. The studios were once owned by Dave Stewart and used as a recording base for the Eurythmics. Bob Dylan also once recorded there - an episode which set off all sorts of Dylan rumours.

This week's planning list shows a planning application for 145H Crouch Hill for the "Conversion of church recording studios to 5.no residential units (4 x2 bed and 1 x 3 bed) with ancillary commercial/office space".

First World's End Cafe and now the Crypt. Ah, The Times They Are A Changin.

I've just learned via Twitter that David Gray bought the studios from Stewart- and sure enough the applicant's name on the planning application is D Gray.

When I lived up that way I once saw David Gray sitting on the bench by the bus stop up the road. Sadly he wasn't with Bob Dylan.

Vincent, from the excellent Kinzli and the Kilowatts works there (in the studio next to David Gray's).

The people I know there (esp during the Crouch End Festival) are talented people who enrich us and it'd be a shame to see them diminished.

I take it that there's no effective way to frown on this - don't suppose even the ConDem's Localism act goes so far as to help a community promote culture at the expense of the rights owners have to build luxury flats, making Haringey's wealth even more unequally distributed towards the Western end of the borough.

Make a great community space - any of the recently-created Facebook billionaires in the Ladder want to invest?
