Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This week's planning applications list shows that the march of the double-shop 'Turkish' is continuing along Green Lanes. This time Gaziantep are spreading next door and into Wilson's Laundmatic.

I object to the fact that the architects cannot spell the word "laundry" - doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

And Grand Parede doesnt inspire confidence either... I am guessing that probably English is not their first language. And that is just an observation of a former teacher not a criticism before anyone comes to get me!

What's wrong with a Tesco Express? Save me walking down to the one opposite the Salisbury. Hmmm, now the Salisbury would make a really nice Turkish restaurant...

... with perhaps a furniture shop on the ground floor? and a bit of a betting shop so that while the missus is looking at furniture, the bloke can go place a few bets without even going outside... Joined up thinking.

I guess so... ;). Tesco's just a reference to the chains that turn a unique area of small businesses into a clone town. I'd rather see a commercial street bloom into too much of its own self (Turkish, on this occasion) than become zombified with chain stores.

I dont want chain stores either (plenty in Arena and Wood Green) but I would like local facilities, places that you need sometimes like laundrettes and hardware stores and gas cooker/fitter shops where you can talk to a real person not someone on the phone to get help. Or a butchers and fishmongers, not that i use such places being a veggie but how good to have such shops.

I dont just want to eat out all the time. There has to be a balance between commercial and residential needs surely?  I feel we are getting way out of balance here.

So what's happened since the little Tesco opposite the Salisbury opened ? Oh yes, half a dozen Turko-Kurdish restaurants have started up

BTW, is Cafe Lemon Kurdish ?

I'll get my coat

I've just heard that we'll be getting another new Turkish restaurant - in the premises of CG Gas on the corner of Roseberry. Unlikely to be a double-fronted one though since it's on a corner next to Pizza Hut.

Yikes. Already a rubbish-dumping issue on that corner, with no space for extra dustbins. I love the restaurants that are already here, but this is getting a little bit silly.

No! ANOTHER local facility going... I have used them a lot, so handy there when there are gas and boiler problems plus good for advice. This in unbelievable. There will be nothing but Turkish restaurants soon. What is going on? One thing Iiked about living here was having useful places round the corner such as laundrette and gas place and local hardware shops.

How long can Baldwins hold out ?
