Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Warning if you are expecting deliveries - and request for info about theft

Hi all,

Delivery companies seem to get more stupid every week it would seem. Yesterday City Sprint left a package we were expecting outside (admittedly they moved the bins in an attempt to conceal it, but it was big). They told the depot it was posted through the green door. Now, given that it was an Xbox and we have a smaller than average letterbox - I would love to see that.

Last night a neighbour opposite came over to inform us he had seen 'the guy that delivers the leaflets' steal the package. He shouted at him to leave it but the guy ran off.

Obviously it's not my fault, and the courier company will be liable, but nevertheless I would like to see the thief punished.

I am on Seymour - could anyone who is in the same road or neighbouring ones let me know what rubbish you had pushed through your door yesterday? I didn't actually get any, obviously once he hit the jackpot, he didn't bother to finish his round.

Also, if you saw anyone delivering junk, could you give me a description?

I'm going to report it to the police and have phoned the taxi company that I know had delivered cards, they say they will ask their leafleter, and if he denies it, they will willingly pass on to me his name so that the police can investigate.

Any help or info anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Wow, talk about idiotic. Seems pretty likely you'll be able to track him down though - have you tried asking next door what BS they got shoved through the door yesterday then maybe compare with your neighbour on the other side? Seems unlikely that this doofus would have carried on once along the street he hit the jackpot with you guys, as you say...(particularly as we know he legged it). Good luck!

Good use of the word doofus, have not hear that for yonks!

I guess the delivery training manual now includes such approaches as this from the fedex hall of fame.

I am fed up with complaining about parcesl left on the doorstep, usually behind the recycling bin, which I don't consider a safe place.

the only cards we got yesterday were the taxi ones, which have now been collected with the recycling so don't remeber what they were. I am on Seymour.

Good luck.

I got one of these.  A parcel safe. They dont make that one any more but there are links on that page to similar products.

Obviously it's only as strong as the screws holding it to the wall, but so far has worked OK. The lock would jemmy apart, but carrying a jemmy is illegal after all. The only snag is that posties etc dont seem to have twigged that they need to turn the lock to secure it, I need to put a notice on with pictures. And the sign-for thing is not believed, not least cos this firm doesnt exist any more.  Hippo Box is the big brand but they are more pricey.

It's not such an issue to me, fundamentally Amazon will have to replace the package and City Sprint are negligent in having left - though their driver is still insisting that he posted it through my door. I have suggested that he comes round now to show me exactly how he managed to fit an Xbox - inside a box - through a very small letter box, because if he did, maybe he should be on Britain's Got Talent.

I had another parcel a few weeks back, got delivered to the right number, but Sydney Road instead of Seymour - only about 8 roads away. Idiots.

Someone delivered something from Amazon for me. They left it by the side of our bin, next to the recycling waste. So the notice told me.

I'd only popped out for about 30 minutes. On my way home I saw the rubbish lorry at the bottom of the street. And yes, they had taken the Amazon box, assuming it was packaging in the green waste....

Amazon dumped the Post Office for deliveries last year (?). Their stuff now seems to come via a motley collection of ways, including private cars. Will they ever swallow their dislike of unionised firms enough to go back to the good old GPO, where there is more of a chance that the delivery person will come to your address more than once and learn your likes + dislikes?

I had something delivered by amazon recently and the guy that delivered it was really aggressive when I asked him to say who is was over the intercom (because he just barked "delivery " at me at 9pm at night which seemed suspicious and someone had recently tried to break into our front door so I was wanting to know exactly who he was!). As he left he gave the door two really loud kicks and then shoved the parcel through the letter box (not sure why he couldn't do that in the first place - wierdo). Its put me off ordering deliveries from Amazon now as I was quite shaken by it all as I was in on my own!

Never leave anything in a box near your recycling bin! We lost a whole Abel & Cole Veg Box when it arrived after we'd already left for work on recycling collection day: I can only assume it was taken and 'recycled' because it was left by the green bins. A&C wouldn't refund it as we couldn't prove what had happened, and it was all extremely annoying.

Aren't they supposed to leave anything that's left OUTSIDE the recycling bin anyway?
