A TfL recovery lorry hit the railway bridge across Green Lanes by Harringay Station early last night.
A van being carried on the transporter was written off, and a train which was about to cross the bridge was stopped short of the station until BR (or whatever they are known as these days) engineers checked the structual integrity of the bridge, which passed, and trains were allowed to carry on.
Polioce closed the road for a short time whilst the emergency services were in attendance.
I guess these drivers just get tired and don't think about what they're doing. I can just imagine that awful moment when you hear the cruch and think " oh f..........".
Funnily enough I was on a 141 bus just the other side of the bridge going to Manor House. There was an almighty bang - as I looked out of the window everyone seemed to have stopped what they were doing and were all looking in the same direction. Some people on the bus thought that it may have been a gun shot, but then as the bus continued (yes, even though the train was stopped, the bus carried on under the bridge!) it became obvious.
