Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I don't normally pay too much attention to School League tables but the joy of being an expectant father meant that I paid closer attention this year.

On the face of it these make quite challenging reading for Harringay/Haringey - or do they?

The difficulties facing (some) Haringey schools have been well documented but I was interested in what residents and parents thought of the local schools (especially primary) - do the stats tell the full story?

Hi Dawn, which nurseries are you referring to? Most of them don't take them until they are 2 or 3 around here, right - so surely one should't put them on waiting lists for those right after birth?

Or have I missed something? Childminders seem to be the main option around here for babies and I don't think they have waiting lists - more a question of being lucky they have a space at the right time...

My two went to Woodlands Park Children's Centre. I filled in the application before my son was born and made my partner take it down to them the day he was born. They are really oversubscribed so you have to live close by, but they take babies from 7 months and they are great.

I didn't know that. Thanks....

I was particulary thinking woodlands but there are others too that take babies 6m - 2yrs and these are the places that are really hard to get. So if nursery is the preference then you really need to get their name down asap.

In case you missed it here's the link to last week's Radio 4 Analysis podcast 'Do schools make a difference?'

New school league tables have been brought in by the government to help parents choose. But do we really know what makes a good school? And how far can schools transform lives?
