Curtain maker required
I'm really busy and hoping to find someone to just do the brain and leg work for me on this. Basically I've a single window in a bit of a narrow space, the coving is a bit awkwardly placed so it's bit tricky to hang a curtain pole. I want it as dark as possible, maybe even a combination of blind and curtain. Budget about £100 to buy and fix curtain rail, make and hang curtain. I actually have some fabric that I quite like but quite flexible on this. Would suit a clever woman with a sewing machine! I have a stepladder. I'm on Salisbury Road N4 1JY. Any takers or recommendations? I'm at home on Friday or weekend of 11-12 Feb.

I can make curtains. I have attached an image of some curtains I made for a friend of a friend. I will need to come and measure the window and see your fabric. I live on Seymour Road, so I'm not far. Also does your budget include payment for my time?

Hello Sophie. I know a great curtainmaker called Claire who recently did my curtains for me. She did a fantastic job and was very reasonably priced.
The only issue is she lives near Newcastle so she wouldn't be able to come around and measure. But she worked from my window measurements (I was a bit worried about that too, but honestly, it was fine. Just measure the width of the window and the drop you want and she will do the rest) and posted them special delivery two weeks later. She may even be able to get the material you want at wholesale price.

I can put you in contact with my neighbor Delia (25+ as a seamstress) she has done all our soft furnishings/curtains. Very reasonable prices and a realy nice lady.

If you have a recessed area in which a curtain might be difficult to hang, I would suggest that you consider a roman blind with blackout linings. Roman blinds are an extremely frugal use of fabric, but require quite a lot of work to make up. If your window is a standard width (ie. 2ft/3ft/4ft etc.) you can buy blackout roman blinds very cheaply (Argos/Ikea) to which you can glue a fabirc of your choice (using heavy duty spray-on adhesive). Very chic and very cheap. If your window is not a standard size, however, you can't cut them down in the way you can with venetian blinds, and custom-made ones are expensive. Just my own thoughts, but I hope they help!
