Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

School League Tables

I don't normally pay too much attention to School League tables but the joy of being an expectant father meant that I paid closer attention this year.

On the face of it these make quite challenging reading for Harringay/Haringey - or do they?

The difficulties facing (some) Haringey schools have been well documented but I was interested in what residents and parents thought of the local schools (especially primary) - do the stats tell the full story?

No stats definitely don't tell full story. Our kids went to Rhodes Avenue and while it performs well in league tables these don't account for the large numbers of children who are tutored privately. Bullying was also a problem and although they have all sorts of policies in place in our experience they were largely window dressing. You have to really push to get the head to acknowledge problems.

Best advice is to talk to as many parents as possible

Observe Governor meeting from the school you may like to send your child.

Keep in your mind that Haringeys School be unther foundet!

Billy,the school in the east have up to 75% familys wo don't speak english as ,as I visit on of this school's yesterday I think the to a great job!

That link doesn't list all the primary schools in Haringey for some reason - have a look at this instead

The best thing to do is visit your local schools, talk to parents whose children currently attend etc. Ofsted reports and league tables are a moot point for many parents.

And congratulations btw - but don't even think about schools yet, it's far too early to worry about that!

In my opinion stats tell you very little about the school. Ofsted reports don't really give you the full picture either. You need to visit schools and talk to other parents. I am very happy with our local school (Chestnuts), and I know other parents who are happy with their Harringay school. But as Angela says I wouldn't worry too much yet, a lot can change in schools in 5 years. Congratulations.

Shaun, with this level of premature parental concern, think of the effect on the poor child: s/he'll be a nervous wreck before s/he sees the light of day.
