Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Invitation for all Residents Associations
Apply now - contact jane@cycletraining.co.uk

Hello,

I am a project manager working for Cycle Training UK - a workers cooperative that provides cycle training in order to support people to travel by bike.

We work with Haringey Council to provide training in Haringey's primary schools and directly to individuals who live, work or study in the borough.

Haringey have recently put aside funding for us to use to deliver cycle training projects directly with communities, specifically outside of schools and the school day. This means we are trying to make contact with people within Haringey's many communities with an interest in simply promoting, or even planning, cycle training activities. These activities need to be community based and either after school, at weekends or during the school holidays.

I was aware that Haringey had a large and active federation of residents associations and was hoping it might be possible to contact each of them to see if there was any interest in arranging cycle training activities - for children, adults and families - in these discrete residential areas.

Anything from a one off drop in session, to a regular course for a small committed group of children or families, is possible.

If you would be happy to pass this on that would be great, or if you could put me in touch with any contacts who you do think would like to take this forward. There would be no cost to each residents association, and minimal time spent organising (we will do what we can to help arrange and promote the training). the funding needs to be used by the end of March 2012.

Do get in touch to discuss this or if you have any questions,

With best wishes,

Jane

Does it have to be for children? I've recently taken up cycling again after many years, and I feel I could do with some refresher training to help me be a bit less wobbly.

They've given me cycle training, and I'm 30! I did one two-hour lesson a few weeks ago, and I've got another next week. I was a complete beginner, and they got me cycling for the first time. So I'm sure they could give you some refresher training.

The good thing is that the first four hours/two lessons are free, because Haringey Council pay for it. I had to hire one of the instructors' bikes last time though, and that was £10 I think.  My lesson took place on the large area of hard surface in Finsbury Park beside the train line, it was one-on-one, and the instructor was really nice. And patient, importantly.
