It's not very difficult to do it yourself if it's a wooden window. A glass shop will cut to size, just be sure to take accurate measurements using a metal rule (so it hasnt stretched like a fabric one) and get some putty, or the acrylic stuff is OK. Chip away the old putty, or remove the wooden beading. Wear thick gloves to get the old stuff out. If you can get it out almost intact, use that as a template for cutting new glass. Take along a bit of old glass so they get the right thickness. Really, I'm no DIY expert but I've done several. Look up a how-to and have a go.

Of course double glazing or fancy metal windows are in a different league.

Beware, glass prices have increased significantly in the last 18 mths so don't expect a cheap deal.

Try Frank at D & K Glass, who are local at Hermitage Rd N4. ph 8800 6633

Thanks for the recommendation of D&K.  I had not picked up on them - rang round about 10 this afternoon - gone with Carter Glass in Crouch End. I'll let you know how I get on !

In another universe I'd try myself but with kids underfoot ... just not realistic.

Carter Glass were great so I'd recommend them.
