Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A shout-out for Alan, Veolia roadsweeper in Crouch End. Having been seduced again by the coffee and chocolate fondant cake in Coffee Circus, I realised I had to pay and popped across to use the cash machine at Nat West. Whilst I was doing so a hand snaked along beside me and started pulling at the receipts stuffed into the little cash machine litter bin.

"It ain't much of a job", he said, "but you might as well do it properly."

You did Alan. You did.

Liz would you mind RTing to Veolia. I always lose their account name.

Okay!

I'd like to add that my road was spotless this morning at 11am Monday morning, gutters as well. It's been a long time since I've seen it that tidy. Sorry I don't know the name of the cleaner as s/he must have been out early this morning but great job!

I also have to compliment them on their politeness and general professionalism. Ok I've only bumped into a few but it was a good initial impression
Well, it's reassuring to hear that some street cleaners in Haringey take their job seriously. If you see Alan again, can you point him in the N17 direction, thanks.

Nice to see some praise, but I cannot do the same for their refuse collection.  Despite making a complaint where I was assured that they would speak to the collectors I still find recycling bins, lids and bags strewn all over the front path - a dead give away that the occupiers are at work/school.  I am so fed up with it that I am considering giving up on recycling and have just the one bin.

I am not surprised, Hugh, that:-

1. You were seduced by the Coffee Circus, Coffee and Cake. The quality very high.

Nor am I surprised that:-

2. You had to go and get some cash. The prices tremendous!

The question then (for me) is the Coffee Circus value for money, and if so how do I pay for it...

Why do you think the number of pan-handlers in Crouch End has shot up in recent years.
"pan-handlers"? What's wrong with the plain term "beggars"?
Is this a plea for a British English over an American English word?
Beggars? What's wrong with financially-challenged low-altitude Bohemian-attired urban-personalities with extended upper limb?
I like the way the Veolia chaps make a concerted effort to pull their vehicle in to the kerb as much as possible, in order not to block traffic, and also wave cars past cheerfully on my road.
