Fears expressed last year that Transport for London could delay improvements to the Piccadilly Line upgrade seem to being borne out in reality.

Private sector contracts which existed prior to TfL's takeover of Tube Lines last year specified that the Piccadilly Line improvements would be finished by 2014. However, the Mayor’s transport authority said that its priority is to reduce the impact of line closures and construction work on passengers, suggested that it plans to let the deadlines slip.

The much needed upgrade for the Piccadilly Line is planned to increase the capacity of the line by 24% and decrease journey times by 19%.

Here's what the Tube Upgrade plan (Feb 2011) had to say on the Piccadilly Line Upgrade:

Today Joanne McCartney (GLA member for Enfield & Haringey) has announced the following:

At the London Assembly Transport Committee Meeting this morning, Mike Brown, Managing Director of London Underground, told Joanne McCartney that funding and the future of the line will not be known until the end of this Parliament – another four years away.

It's well known that the Piccadilly Line is mostly a bunch of Labour voters but I'm surprised to see that the clean cut Lib Dem voters of Queen's park have been sacrificed to spite the hairy socialists of Elephant and Castle.
I love that they play classical music in Manor House and Turnpike Lane stations - very calming.
considering the massive inconvenience involved, for very little gain i consider this good news. a few years ago they decided to upgrade turnpike lane station, they covered the outside in scaffolding and plastic for months creating an eyesore even by turnpike lane standards, for what its a mystery, hacked off the tiles in the station and replaced them - when they could have just cleaned / repaired them. meanwhile the rolling stock still appears to use 19th century technology, very noisy , hot and the air in the tunnels is possibly full of particulates. how about less noisy carraiges - its possible - look at paris metro, cleaner and cooler air rather than this continual 'upgrades'
