I have supported BTCV for many years and done conservation work with them but I am disappointed that they are now assisting the Council's attempts to substitute unpaid volunteers for council employees.  Speaking to council gardeners in Finsbury Park this week they were unhappy that their jobs were under threat and BTCV were taking over their work planting up the flower beds. 

 

Although I've volunteered in parks before I think it's time to draw the line - if the council manages to rope us in now to take on all this work, all that will happen is they'll claim success and cut back on parks staff even more.  We'll be cutting our own throats as well as the staff.
