What a load of selfish idiots.  Late last year we had to suffer a group of people letting off fireworks in the park at 2am so it's obviously (ab)used in the evenings despite being closed up.

 

I guess the only real option other than adding barbed wire to the fence or tucking landmines in and around the daffodil bulbs is for Falkland/Fairfax residents to keep an eye out if walking past at night, and if someone looks to be trashing the park ring the police?

 

Would be happy to help with any daffodil replanting effort - know it's out of season for putting in bulbs but have a few spare bulbs (tulips I think) that I didn't put in this year and might be ok for next spring...

Next Fairland Park meeting details. This is a good place to bring your ideas/concerns/solutions and to help other volunteers with the park.

 

Popped up to the park this morning. Spoke with a dad there who said he saw children picking quite a number of daffodils on Sunday. He spoke tothe children's dad ... who saw no problem (!)

I am appalled by that! Do people really have nothing better do with their time? What a strange thing to do.

I was there on Sunday and noticed that a few daffs had been picked and were strewn around the place (though a lot were left, so it sounds as though someone has had another go since). From the way it was done I could easily believe it was kids.

 

On rubbish, it was a bit depressing on Sunday. I wonder whether the positioning of the bins doesn't help matters. In particular, it would be useful to have one nearer the play area and the picnic table. I can't quite remember where the nearest bin is to that - I think it is outside the park altogether near the gate? I know we are only talking about mere metres in terms of distance, and that this won't put off the hard core of people who just think it is their god given right to drop a crisp packet where ever it suits, but might this help reduce some of the incidental littering a bit? I do pick stuff up and put it in the bins and see others do the same, you've got to hope that has an impact too.

 

I know we had a discussion about this last year, and that there isn't any more money, but perhaps one of the existing bins could be moved?
