Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This morning all councillors got an Open Letter from the Haringey Alliance for Public Services.

I've attached it so HoL members can read it in full. I won't attempt a summary.

The letter rightly condemns "the massive cuts to front line services affecting many of the most vulnerable in our communities". It "urges all of us to "speak up for the public good". And says we should "refuse to make cuts" and not be: "doing the Government's dirty work for them".

"The point being?"

The point is that I'm trying to be helpful. You may disagree with or even deplore Dave Morris and all the other groups and people involved with HAPS. But you might at least try to treat their convictions, ideas and suggestions with respect and consideration. Not belittle people as "nutjobs" and dismiss their views just because they are "hardly mainstream".
good job that you can add, erm, 'balance' to the discussion with such a distinctly non-political, value-free and impartial approach of your own then ;-)
@Will, you criticise the old 'ya boo' politics and yet you're the first one to try to belittle people for their political convictions and then characterise any argument you don't like as "outmoded yada yada." (previous post).
You dismiss the 'Haringey Alliance for Public Services' as "a minority group with vested interests hiding behind an open letter" and go on to say that "they seem to be total nutjobs" and then, shock horror "under deeper investigation the founder members of HAPS belong to such groups as the Haringey Solidarity group and Socialist Resistance." Yikes!!!
Did your deeper investigations also reveal that also involved with 'Haringey Alliance for Public Services' have been such well known revolutionary "nutjobs" as the 'Haringey Forum for Older People', and the equally militant and crazy 'Downhills Park Friends Group' not to mention, Broadwater Farm Residents Association, Bounds Green Ward Labour Party, CoHenel University and College Union, Communication Workers Union, Defend Haringey’s Health Services Coalition, Find Your Voice Campaign, Haringey Federation of Residents Associations, Haringey Forum For Older People, Haringey Friends of Parks Forum, Haringey Green Party, Haringey Health Unison, Haringey Solidarity Group, Haringey Trades Union Council, Haringey Unison Branch, Lordship Rec Friends Group, NATFE, Noel Park North Area Residents Association, North London Community House (Day-Mer), Socialist Party, Sustainable Haringey, Unite.
You attack this alliance for their "vested interest", well yes they are fighting to save services that so many of us depend on and to save jobs, and they will definitely have my support. And for the record I am not a "nutjob" and I do consider myself a fairly "average Harringayite" whatever that is.

So the rep of Friends of Downhills Park happens to also be a rep of Unison and is a member of a political party, how can one person do so much! At least he's out there actively representing union members in the public sector and he's also supporting Downhills Park; is that somehow incredibly reprehensible?

That leaves Broadwater Farm Residents Association, Bounds Green Ward Labour Party, CoHenel University and College Union, Communication Workers Union, Defend Haringey’s Health Services Coalition, Find Your Voice Campaign, Haringey Federation of Residents Associations, Haringey Forum For Older People, Haringey Friends of Parks Forum, Haringey Green Party, Haringey Health Unison, Haringey Solidarity Group, Haringey Trades Union Council, Haringey Unison Branch, Lordship Rec Friends Group, NATFE, Noel Park North Area Residents Association, North London Community House (Day-Mer), Sustainable Haringey and Unite for you to be paranoid about.

So just a grouping of Lefties then? "Entryism" was always the number one priory for the Left in Haringey, wasn't it?
