Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Autograf in West Green Road, South Tottenham, has a flourishing base of customers who relish a plate of traditional Pierogi dumplings or goulash and a shot from the huge vodka menu.

The restaurant has blazed a trail for one of the capital’s newest cuisines and hopes to attract new customers after being named Best Modern restaurant in the London24 Food & Drink Awards, run by Hornsey Journal publisher Archant London.

Owner Tomasz Spitza, 31, a former builder, said: “We hope the win will bring more English and international customers to the restaurant, because we are actually 90 per cent based on Polish customers.

“People like the food and if they try it once they come back often.”

As London’s Polish community has grown, the demand for Polish food has rocketed and Autograf is cashing in on trade.

Authentic ingredients are imported all the way from Poland and Mr Spitza puts the restaurant’s success down to a tried and tested formula.

“We serve huge portions and they’re quite cheap, so people love it,” he said. “If you give people lots to eat for less price and the standard is good – it’s a success.”

Along with his 29-year-old wife Aga Wilk, he moved from south east Poland to London in 2000 and the couple opened Autograf in 2008.

Anyone tried it?

I have eaten there - the food and the service are both very good. I especially recommend the bigos ('hunters' stew') - but the portions are huge!

Yep, it's a thumbs up from me. Cheap, filling, tasty, friendly and they have booths which is great.
