Protests against education cuts at Hornsey School for Girls
Students at Hornsey School for Girls staged a sit down protest against the education cuts in their playground this morning. The school gates were then locked and no-one was being allowed to leave. The police were also called.
Several students who left earlier were approached by the police at Turnpike Lane station who were asking which school they attended and where they were going and why.

My son is gutted - he blagged a day off today, pleading a cold and the bad weather, then spent it playing video games and being nagged about homework. I just told him he could have been down at Westminster setting fire to bus shelters and legitimately bunking off school...

I don't know what the Lib Dem's conference agenda was, and I don't suppose the potential demonstrators did either, but wouldn't it be ironic if they had been going to discuss how to persuade their leadership to oppose / reverse the cuts ?

I see Cable has back tracked on abstaining on his own policy come the vote this Thursday. But the LDs are, as this Welsh journalist says, in a political hole. As this journalist rightly points out,
University funding has been the spark to set alight latent anger at coming cuts to public spending, illuminating a fair few political dividing lines in the process.
Next NUS led protest is Wednesday, the day before the vote. Those into protest-lite (nipping out of a cafe with their latte) can gather outside Lynn Featherstone's office in Crouch End. Details from the f word;

I still don't know why they hung themselves on anyone's peg. You don't stand for parliament to be a delegate.
