So a year after Boris
pulled the carpet out from underneath our W1 bus ambitions we have a 20mph zone and traffic calming on Wightman Rd. Coincidence?
I don't think so (but i would say that, wouldn't I?). Residents on Wightman Rd had been asking the council for years for traffic calming and a 20mph zone. The council always came back with the reply that there was nothing that they could do because funding had to come from TfL as it was one of their roads.
I
know our local politicians (and some not so local) had a lot to do with the work done on Wightman Rd but I would also like to raise my glass to the
hard work of Old-Age-Emporium who collected more than 250 signatures in support of the W1 bus (before it was kyboshed by Boris) and I think those of us enjoying the slower traffic on Wightman Rd should too.
PS I'd be interested to hear back from any local politicians about whether or not the W1 bus effort made getting the traffic calming easier. Is it worth us undertaking these oblique projects to force government's hand?
