Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I’d like to donate an old Apple iMac to a worthy club or organisation

Hi Harringay Online,

I’ve got an Apple iMac desktop computer that I would like to give away. It is a 27” highly spec’d model, with a big hard drive, a fast Intel processor, plus a wireless Bluetooth keyboard, and wireless Bluetooth trackpad. It also includes software for Web Browsing, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, video editing, and music production too. I recently wiped the hard drive, and the computer is in good working order. It is also back to factory settings, and it ready to be set up again. And I have packed it all up in the original box, so it is ready to go. I have included a photo, taken when I set it up recently.

The system was new in 2013, but I haven’t used it in over 5 years. It’s a very good computer, in excellent condition, and still has some years left in it. Rather than try to sell it, I wanted to do something good for the local community, so I have been trying to donate it locally.

I offered it to my local primary school, and they seemed excited to take it, but then never phoned me back. I then tried the nearest youth centre, but their phone number rings through to the main council number. So I spoke to the council, and they suggested the local library. And no one picks up the telephone at the library. I’ve now run out of ideas, which is what brought me here.

Does anyone know of a local group or organisation that would benefit from a donated Apple iMac? I genuinely would like to see it end up somewhere that would best make use of it, and I am open to suggestions.

There is only one small catch, whoever takes it would need to collect it from me. And it’s a big box, so transport would be required. You wouldn’t want to carry it too far on foot, and I would happy to help load it in someone’s car. I’d also be happy to offer whatever technical support I can, though it is a very easy computer to set up, and configure. You will need WiFi and/or internet connectivity to do it.

I want this computer to end up somewhere, where it can do some good, and I am very open to suggestions. If anyone has any ideas, please respond to this post.

Thanks,

WGDoug

Hi, I’ve sent you a connection request about this.  I run a fairly new support charity for people living with anal cancer.  At the moment it’s run from my kitchen table with a laptop which is on its last legs so a decent bit of kit would be a boon! .  Michael

Hi Michael,

I haven’t received your message, but added you as a contact. Please send your message again, and hopefully I will receive it. Thanks

Message sent.

Thank you, but someone here has asked for it already

Update: The computer has been donated. Thanks to Harringay Online for allowing me to post this.

All the best,

WGDoug

I can’t thank you enough Doug 😊

My pleasure!

Hello Michael.  Could you use a black and white all in one printer?  It also photocopies and scans.   I would also like to give it free to a charity.  It is an HP DeskJet 1050 and works very well.  I just don't need it as I already have another printer.  It would be to collect in Bounds Green, but is free.

I already have a printer Grazyna, but thank you so much for your very kind offer.

No problem.  Thanks for letting me know and good luck with your work!
