Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Underground train visitor (1938 vintage) to Manor House station today - picture

This most handsome tube train is allowed out occasionally on the parts of the tube network that still have 'traditional' signalling, including the Piccadilly line - for the next few years only.

It's based at the London's Transport Museum's depot at Acton Town (next to that Tube station, on the Piccadilly line ). The depot opens for two or three weekends a year, and has tube carriages, buses, all sorts of artefacts (e.g bits of the experimental spiral escalator at Holloway Road station), lots of stalls selling transport memorabilia, and a ride-on miniature railway. Well worth a family visit. Next open days Thu 21 to Sun 24 Sept: details here.
