They are all hard at work on the neighbourhood flags today.
I KNEW they reminded me of something else
I think they're really original, as mascots go, which doesn't mean I think they're great. I just think that a lot has gone in to the concept and birth of these characters and could prove a real winner in terms of a sellable identity. London and the UK are at the forefront of design and this shows that.

There is a lot of marketability in them obscure things rather than just fluffy toys. If you look back at all the previous mascots they are pretty predictable and non descript, with little visual legacy. These mascots look forward rather than looking to heritage, which is the usual approach. There are aspects of the past and indeed our industrial past, which is what made us well known globally. There is visual reference to London icons such as the black cab plus they show life through one unified perspective, as it should be. They are sleek and aerodynamic just like the games have become mirroring the futuristic stadiums and equipment used. I personally think they'll grow and people will get to like them. I am glad that it isn't just some thoughtless tat, a little kitsch maybe but vastly different than previous, which hopefully will make it have some longevity.

We really knock things in this country and we (especially our press) our own worst enemies, just look at the 2018 bid recently. I wonder if other countries knock absolutely everything they do?

As for Harringay mascots, we have Harry and Harriot they're round, green and have a H on their bellies : )
Good for you Birdy. Good to hear you standing up for them. I'll be delighted if they're a soaraway success. I just don't get them.

But the important stuff, when do we get to see the first designs for Harry & Harriet?
I never said I didn't like them Birdy:) but then I love Japanese manga and all the weird stuff my kids bring home from school like pictured gogos. I'm inclined to agree with you, I'm glad they've gone for something modern rather than from the big book of tweeness that can sometimes characterise 'british' culture (still some of the photoshopped stuff is funny). Anyway, about that flag...
I wasn't saying you didn't, I was being lazy and copied and pasted it from another forum I posted it on so is a little confusing : )
Sorry - still freaking me out. Maybe I just have a thing about cyclopses, probably brought on by my visit to the Gordon Museum at Guys Hospital whilst studying nursing many moons ago.
Do they say London? No
Do they say sport ? No
Do they say anything ? No

The point of mascots is to generate income through franchising, branding and commercialisation
Naturally they are for generating income. Wenlock is named after Much Wenlock where the concept of the modern olympics began and Mandeville is named after Stoke Mandeville where the idea of the paralympics started.
