Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Kurdish Community Centre asking for help following Turkish earthquake

A note from Lucy of GRA:

The earthquake in Turkey this week has hit the southeast, which is a predominantly Kurdish area. Many of our neighbours and local traders are likely to have families in the affected area. On Green Lanes today I saw some notices about the earthquake, asking for help, which is being coordinated at the Kurdish Community Centre. I am not quite sure what kind of help is being requested.

Does anyone know what kind of help is being requested?

Further to my previous message, here is an update on the local relief effort for the earthquake in Kurdistan (S E Turkey).

Hundreds of people have died, thousands have been injured, many more have been made homeless in the 7.2 magnitude earthquake which struck South Eastern Turkey last Sunday 23 October. Many local Harringay residents from the Kurdish and Turkish communities have families in the affected area.

I have just called in at the Kurdish Community Centre, which is at Fairfax Hall, Portland Gardens(off Stanhope Gardens) N4 1HU, where they are coordinating local support for the relief effort. They say they have collected lots of clothes but what is really needed now is cash. Cash is being collected through their registered charity, Kurdish Red Moon. You can make a donation at the Centre and they will give you a receipt, or you can make a donation by bank transfer as follows:

Kurdish Red Moon

Registered Charity No: 1093741

Company No: 4285714

Bank Sort code: 204660

Account No: 40912387

Members of the local Kurdish community will be very grateful for support from the wider Harringay community.

Thanks Lucy - have tweeted this out also.

It looks like they may be having trouble with these bank details. There is a donate link on the Kurdish Red Moon website you can use instead: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=ST5BWWFB7FPGS
