Our lovely local bookshop on Turnpike Lane is in danger of closing. Please help them by buying a book. Or if you have a group, go meet there. Or if you have toddler's, go to Friday storytime at 10am. Or go to one of the quizes.
Basically, if you want a local independent bookshop, just go there

They're great. They can order just about anything. They have a bookable events space and a lively event programme.
They need customers and they can use offers of help (particularly 'I could do X' rather than 'You should do Y'. They get plenty of the latter... :) :) :)
Yes, they take book tokens.
This is a fantastic local shop. They have a great selection of books to browse and you can ask for anything to be ordered. If it's available then it's usually ready to collect really quickly (the last one I ordered was there the next day!).
The comedy night is a brilliant evening and really great value for the high standard and number of acts. Refreshments are BYO which makes it far more affordable than going out for other entertainment. I've attended other book launches and events and it's always a lovely way to meet people.
They have a space you can book if you have your own group meetings/gatherings to organise.
It has a warm local community feel. Many a time there'll be another customer in there that you'll end up chatting with, so you can not only buy books but meet other lovely folks from the neighbourhood too!
It's an absolute gem of a locally run business and with so many ways to support them, other than just buying books, please do pop in and give at least one of them a try if you can.
It's not on my beaten track, so I don't l know this shop. Do they some have some social media pages to find out what they do when, e.g. the comedy events?

Yes, it's a good shop and it would be a shame if they went under.
To the point about 'beaten track' - yes, their current location is worse than that of an earlier incarnation, on Brampton Park Rd. There are enough empty shops on the high road that you'd might hope that commercial landlords would look to drop their rent a bit, especially for businesses like this, but so it goes I guess.
