Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I received today the consultation on a new development for 51 new homes which includes two parking spaces for Blue Badge holders, but no other parking spaces. There is a “commitment” to restrict future occupants from obtaining parking permits to park locally. 

Clearly, there is a need for more homes, but to make it a condition that potential buyers will not be allowed to keep a car seems to me to be untenable. Although I welcome Haringey’s intention to reduce traffic in the borough, this cannot be an equitable way of achieving it. It would seem inevitable that in time, residents will be allowed to park and this will put further pressure on present parking availability. I doubt that there will be any “commitment” once these properties are sold. 

We need more homes, but all proposals should take account of all local resources including parking. Not, as I suspect in this case, ignoring those needs as a means of building with more profit for the developers.

Where abouts on Clarendon Road are they intending on building? 

Also Hackney have been doing the 'on the condition of no cars for a while now'

Annoying because a lot of people do tend to choose to live North so they can have a car and travel easily via the North circular London

Hi Ian - I don't think there is any space on Clarendon Rd not already used for housing. Is it possible that the letter os referring to the Clarendon development at the west side of Wood Green?

This is the case for a lot of new developments in London. The commitment mainly comes from the council in that residents aren't able to get a parking permit so don't have much choice about not having a car. Given that the majority of Haringey residents don't own a car a car-free development isn't that much of a stretch.
