Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi everyone -

A group of local residents have joined together to sponsor a refugee family to settle in Harringay. I first posted about this in the autumn.

We're called Make Harringay Home and we're asking for your help.

Through the Government's Community Sponsorship programme, we're applying to bring a vulnerable family on the United Nations refugee list to resettle in our area.  For a successful application, we need to fundraise a minimum of £9,000 to support the family when they first arrive.

Your support would be hugely appreciated and you can donate here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/make-harringay-home.

As well as raising money, there's a lot more to do before our application will be approved.  For example, we need to find affordable rental accommodation and school places.  We will also help the family settle into their new Harringay home and with English lessons when they arrive. To find out more, take a look at: Make Harringay Home | Facebook or email at harringaywelcomesrefugees@gmail.com

Interested in getting involved?  We'd love to hear from you – there are various tasks, small and big, that you could help with. None of us have previous experience of making a refugee resettlement application and we're all learning on the job!

We also love Harringay and know that our local area has so much to offer to a family facing extraordinary difficulties abroad. The Community Sponsorship programme is a way to support a family’s new start in a safe, diverse and welcoming environment.

Best wishes,

Make Harringay Home team

I am sure they will make a big difference to the area - a refugee family in Harringey whatever next, unheard of!

Sure it will make a big difference to the family, Allan, which is more to the point, no?

please private message me so i can offer whatever help i can, well done, keep going.

This seems a thoroughly admirable initiative and I hope it succeeds. I see that the appeal is very close to hitting its target.
