In response to feedback, we're just trying out some new idea and would really welcome feedback from people who don't contribute as much as well as those who do.
Whilst I've been a great proponent of the latest activity panel, to the extent of being featured for our use of it on Ning's blog, we want to try taking a little attention off it to see what effect that will have.
We're delighted that Peter had picked this up within minutes. (Shows someone's watching!)
Yes, Adam, poor blogophiles have been getting squeezed badly into their little corner, down to a miserable three from what I think was 5 or more earlier. Does anyone over 18 really need their birthday up in lights?
Appearance is of the site is on tomorrows agenda at the HOL group meeting.
Personally I feel that a template needs to be chosen and we need to stick to it and stop adding various widgets and snippets. The original design template is there to make the navigation process easier, it seems to be slipping into amateur mode again with the various clock additions, birthdays and soon to be star sign predictions : )
Blogs and activity are vital for readership, other bits of minor information are not in my opinion. If you look at any news website a consistent, clear and crisp front page is vital for clear reading and a professional identity. Shouldn't this process be part of the democratic group?
I'd like to hear what less fequent posters (I appreciate the irony of me writing this, before anyone points it out) have to say about the navigation of the site and their views of latest activity and the forum.
Anyone else like to add their comments, especially if you don't post much on the site?
But surely this should be a democratic decision, do you think not? This was discussed at length at previous meetings yet it is being updated on a daily basis without those discussions being taken into account, or is the HOLG not working as it should?
It's not my understanding that the HOLG was designed for or wants to be involved in the day-to-day running of the site, but perhaps it's worth checking that we all share the same understanding.
For anyone interested who hasn't seen it, the HOLG Constitution is already uploaded on the site here.
Then why was it put on the agenda, discussed at length, voted on? I am slightly unsure whether the HOLG has any use then other than to raise a few quid here and there. What have the Elections have to do with the HOLG then? Surely it was set up to sustain HOL financially, with decent content and to make sure that content represents it's members and to make it factual and functional for the community. This cannot be true if one or two people control the content?
There is the day to day running of the site and there is complete control to change the visual identity and front page content and proximity of that content with various wiggets, blogs, videos, images, messages based on personal preferences.
I have no problem with the day to day running but I am unaware any other website that changes so frequently without any consultation of a wider group. Again I have no problem with this but I see no point of the HOLG to make decisions on elections, advertising, campaigns etc etc etc
Maybe I got the whole point of HOLG completely wrong?
