Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

If like us your holiday plans have again been banjaxed/ kyboshed/ stuffed (insert your preferred descriptor) you are no doubt looking for ideas as to what to do for the day with kids that would rather spend the day moping around the house.

We are not going to get away, rather we will try and do some day trips/activities from home base! So, if anyone has ideas for things that might suits a 12 year old who is rarely without wifi, and a 16 year old who likes being outdoors I, and I suspect may others, would welcome your input.

Some contributions of my own below:

  • Pick Your own fruit and veg at Parkside Farm- the great benefit of this is you can also take yourself off to Trent Park for a couple of hours too, we often go for picknicks
  • Cycle the Lea- Get the train from Harringay station to Hertford North and pick up the river Lea and cycle all the way back down to Hackney Marshes and home, or (if you have the energy) down to Limehouse Basin on the Thames and back
  • Ivinghoe Beacon- If you have a car, a trip out towards Dunstable and the Ivinghoe Beacon on the North Down Way is well worth it. Great views from the top and on the ridge on the landscape carved out by the ice sheet in the last ice age. Its part of the Ashridge Estate, which is also well worth a visit.

Great suggestion to 'Cycle the Lea'. Don't forget that central London is also great for cycling at the moment with all the cycle lanes and not many tourists. eg. Embankment, down the Mall, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park etc. Either take your own bikes on a route you are comfortable with or take the train and use Boris bikes in the centre.
