PARKLAND WALK TREE MASSACRE - KEEP SIGNING AND SHARING OUR PETITION - the fight goes on!
Dear all,
Please do keep sharing our petition to stop further felling on the Parkland Walk after they chopped down 175 trees since Jan/February (much more than their estimation of 80) to assess possible bridge damage and future bridgeworks. http://chng.it/SDCp26HZTg
At the Muswell Hill end they mistakenly felled some 150 year old oaks, due to a miscalculation as to where to measure their 5metre remit from the bridge structures exactly from. The whole operation has been totally unsupervised and carried out under the cover of covid social distancing restrictions.
From The Friends of the Parkland Walk's recent statement to our own observations of the bridge works, as well as David Theakston's own admissions regarding trees at the Muswell Hill end of the walk, the work on this beloved wildlife reserve has afforded scant regard to trees or wildlife, has been done shoddily at best with inbuilt miscalculations/errors as well as showing a worrying neglect and care for normal procedures for such a large ecological project.
Yesterday we had word from David Theakston (Head of Parks Projects, Haringey) that the assessment/final survey will take two more weeks, so we're hoping we'll get some good news for the remaining trees on the PW.
But no guarantees, we're well into nesting season now, and we all need to keep vigilant.
So keep the pressure up by emailing/writing to Haringey people (good names to contact below.)
What you can do to keep the pressure up:
I attach a template letter (bottom of this post) which can be used and adapted to contact the council. DEMAND THE COUNCIL KEEP THE REMAINING TREES. SAY THAT THE WORKS HAVE BEEN DONE BADLY. I would start to CC in some of the people above David Theakston's head too, right to the top of this list - below.
Relevant names to contact at the council right to the top with the email form of firstname.secondname@haringey.gov.uk:
David Theakston - Parks Development Office (managing the Parkland Walk works)
Alex Fraser, Principal Arboriculture Officer
Annabel Foskett - conservation officer
Head of Parks and Leisure - Simon Farrow
Director of Environment & Neighbourhoods - Stephen McDonnell
Chief Executive - Zina Etheridge
On the political side the two key folk in the Cabinet are Joseph Ejiofor - Leader Kirsten Hearn - Climate change, equalities and leisure plus your councillor ward officers
